Frequently Asked Questions
Q - Will I get any discount on my insurance premiums?
A - 10% seems to be the norm reported by users. There is often a clause requiring the alarm to be set at all times. Only the Ex-Cell and Easy Fit systems can provide 24 hour protection, whether on the road or on site.
Q - Does the system include a tilt switch?
A - Nothing so crude. Both the Ex-Cell NT and the Easy Fit alarm utilise a movement sensor which, in conjunction with our intelligent software, will not alarm when the caravan is buffeted by wind or traffic.
Q - Why do you not use a tilt switch?
A - See above. Many tilt switches have to be calibrated every time you site your caravan. This is never easy as it is often dark when you arrive on site or back home, and tilt switches are usually sited beneath a bunk or in the back of a cupboard near to the axle.
Q - If I buy an Easy Fit alarm, can I add extra sensors?
A - Yes, the system has provision for a sensor loop which can incorporate as many door, window and locker sensors as you wish.
Q - I want to fit a tracker system at some time, do I have to buy it with the alarm system?
A - No, but you will need the Easy Fit system. Your tracker dealer will be able to plug the tracker into the Easy Fit alarm to give you an indication if the caravan is entered, not only moved.
Q - Can I fit sensors to the corner steadies?
A - By all means. They can be included in the sensor loop on either the Easy Fit or the Ex-Cell NT alarm system.
Q - Why do you supply old-fashioned magnetic switches?
A - Our research informed the decision. Magnetic sensors do not use any current from the battery, therefore the caravan can be left for longer without attention. They are not subject to environmental change and will not give false alarms. Only when the circuit is broken by opening a door, window or locker will the sensor trigger the alarm. The battery power is therefore reserved for the siren.
Q - Do I have to fit only the sensors you sell?
A - No, any compatible sensor is acceptable.
Q - How long will the battery last?
A - This depends on the size and condition of your leisure battery, but the drain is less than the normal discharge rate of the battery when it is left disconnected from the caravan.
Q - Can I have a back-up battery?
A - The Easy Fit alarm comes with an integral battery. You choose how it is wired into the caravan. It can be used as a back-up battery or as a stand alone unit.
Q - Do I need a battery charger for the Easy Fit alarm?
A - No, the integral battery will be charged automatically via the leisure battery, whenever the caravan is used on mains electricity. When traveling both batteries will be topped up through the connection to the car.
Q - Can I fit extra sensors to the Easy Fit system?
A - Yes, the sensors are wired in series, therefore there is theoretically no limit to the number you can add to the system. Additional sensors are available on the buy now page.
Q - How do I protect my bbq?
A - Take a wire from any locker, the cassette compartment is the usual choice, and wire in a jack plug type of connector. Return the other side of the jack to the circuit. The wire is then wrapped around the bbq, or bicycle or chairs, and the jack plug pushed together. Any movement of your property will break the circuit at the jack plug and sound the alarm. This circuit should be included with the lockers to ensure that it will be a part of the day mode.
Q - Do I have to have the towcar ID chip?
A - The Easy Fit alarm does not have a car ID chip. However it is able to detect any car being attached in day, night and store modes, and the towcar being detached in tow mode. Using this alarm, there is no need to modify your car lighting circuit.
Q - I was towed off the National Rally Field by tractor. How could that happen if I fitted the Ex-Cell NT alarm?
A - No problem. Disarm the system at the control box, hitch up to the tractor and keep the caravan in view. As soon as the tractor reaches solid ground and you are hitched up to your own towcar again, select tow mode and arm the system ready for the road.
Q - I want to let my son use the caravan - can he use his own car?
A - The simple solution is to buy the Easy Fit alarm without an ID chip. If you choose the Ex-Cell NT you should order two car ID chips with the initial system so that the unit can be programmed to accept two cars.
Q - Can I transfer the vehicle ID to a new car?
A - Yes, simply remove the chip, make sure the lighting circuit is returned to normal, and fit the chip to the new car. If you sell your caravan with our alarm fitted, please remember to give the new owner the car ID chip.
Q - How long will it take me to fit the alarm system to my caravan?
A - It will depend on how many sensors you decide to use, the layout of the caravan, the system you choose and your experience and competence. The Easy Fit alarm is just that and can be fitted in less than an hour. It has just three wires to be connected to the caravan wiring system, a cable to the control box and one to the PIR. The whole system can usually be fitted under one berth. Any extra sensors for the doors and windows can be added later. The Ex-Cell alarm system will need a day to fit.
Q - What am I supposed to do with the pressure pad?
A - It is usually placed under the carpet beneath the Heki Light, or in the bathroom. The idea is to provide a trap for any intruder in an area where the window sensors may not be sufficient. In end bedroom models, a pressure pad strategically placed in the front section can cover entry via Heki light or window. In end bathroom models, the pressure pad can be used to protect the wardrobe. If you feel it is not appropriate in your caravan, it can be omitted. We do not include a pressure pad with the Easy Fit system.
Q - Why do you only include a PIR with the Easy Fit Alarm?
A - We designed the PIR so that it is suitable for the environment and will not be affected by insects. It has a 360o field so can be fitted anywhere in the caravan. Using a PIR will cover the whole of the main living area, giving protection in the shortest possible time. We provide contacts to enable additional sensors to be fitted to increase protection, for example on the rear window in end-bathroom models, or to the main entry door to give extra protection at night. |
