That Earthquake
Remember the tremor that ‘rocked’ England a few weeks ago? We waited for people to report problems, but nothing happened.
Our own caravans were sited in various locations in Leicestershire – not that far from the epicentre in Lincolnshire, but not a sound was heard.
The only conclusion we can reach is that our motion sensor is intelligent enough to know that the movements experienced on that occasion were not actually the caravan being stolen, but simply the rocking caused by the movements of the earth itself.
As we hear, this was not the case in caravans fitted with tilt switches and trembler mechanisms!!!
A False Alarm?
An owner phoned us recently to say that the call centre operated by his tracking system had reported that our alarm was false alarming. The alarm system was reporting movement, whilst the tracking system was not. We asked the owner to check, just in case.
Having driven to his storage depot, the owner phoned us back to say that the landowner had moved his caravan, by hand, just a few feet into an adjacent pitch. It was enough for us to sense, but not enough for the tracking device which relies on satellite data.
The moral of the story is don’t assume that the most expensive system must be right. The movement needed to trigger our alarm is only a few feet. To trigger most tracking systems you need to move around 400 to 500 metres before the satellite will see you.
Exhibitions for 2008
The directors have decided that since the changes to the shows at the NEC have resulted in the same number of people divided over two shows at twice the cost to us, that for 2008 we are giving the NEC a miss. However, we are using the money we would usually spend at the NEC to travel around the country to outdoor events – some of which will enable us to show you how the alarm system is fitted in our own caravan. Firm bookings to date are:-
Rempstone Steam Fair, Leicestershire – July 11 to 13
The Lawns Caravan Extravaganza Weekend, Hull – September 6 and 7
Caravan Club, Cheshire Centre, Bonfire Rally, Somerford – November 7 to 9
We are looking at others, especially events in the south. If you have any ideas, let us know.
